چکیده

ALLEN, D. M., W. N. MCFARLAND, F. W. MUNZ, and H. A. Pos-roN. 1973. Changes in the visual pigments of trout. Can. J. Zool. 51: 901-914. The proportions of two visual pigments (rhodopsin and porphyropsin) were examined in four species of trout under experimental and natural conditions. Brook trout (Salvelinus fontinalis), rainbow trout (Santo gairdneri), and brown trout (Salmo truita) have different relative proportions of visual pigments in their retinae. The visual pigment balance in wild cutthroat trout (Saint() clarki) is related to forest canopy (access to light) and season. The brown trout have a more red-sensitive and less labile pair of visual pigments than brook or rainbow trout, which respond to photic conditions by increasing the proportion of porphyropsin (in light) and increasing rhodopsin (in darkness). The brown trout have a high percentage of porphyropsin, regardless of experimental conditions. This result does not reflect an inability to form rhodopsin but rather may relate to a consistently high proportion of 3-dehydroretinol in the pigment epithelium. The possible advantages and mechanisms of environmental control of trout visual pigment absorbance, as currently understood, are discussed.

An experimental study to evaluate pathogenicity of Yersinia ruckeri isolated from rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) in Caspian trout (Salmo caspius)

The main objective of this study was to evaluate the pathogenicity of isolated   Yersinia ruckeri  from Caspian trout. Y. ruckeri specimens were isolated from infected rainbow trout farms located in north of Iran. The identification was confirmed by biochemical tests and 16s rRNA gene sequencing. The pathogenicity test was carried out to determine the virulence of the Y. ruckeri by IP injection...

Changes in metabolic enzymes levels exposed to zinc and cadmium in the snow trout (Schizothorax zarudnyi)

Nowadays, the entrance of pollutants including heavy metals in environment threatens the life of aquatic animals. In this study, the effect of zinc chloride (6 mg/l) and cadmium chloride (5 mg/l) exposure were studied on the activity of some metabolic enzymes in the liver, gills, brain and muscle in Snow trout (Schizothorax zarudnyi). The results showed that zinc caused a significant increase i...

The effect of extrinsic factors on two distinctive rhodopsin-porphyropsin systems.

MCFARLAND, W. N. , and D. M. ALLEN. 1977. The effect of extrinsic factors on two distinctive rhodopsin-porphyropsin systems. Can. J . Zool. 55: 1000-1009. The effects of light, temperature, and thyroxine on the proportions of two visual pigments (rhodopsin and porphyropsin) are compared for three species of fishes in which the pigment proportions change oppositely in response to light (rainbow ...

The effects of different dietary levels of organic and mineral selenium on intestinal morphology and histopathological changes of liver tissue in rainbow trout (Oncorhynchus mykiss) fry

The aim of this study was to evaluate the effect of different levels of organic and mineral sources of selenium on the intestinal morphology and also histologically changes in liver tissues of juvenile rainbow trout for 60 days. For this purpose, 1080 healthy fry fish (50±2.8 g average body weight) were randomly divided into 3 groups, including organic selenium (0.15, 0.30, 0.45, 0.60 mg. kg-1)...

Effects of different concentration pollen on biochemical-hematological changes and paraoxanase activity in Rainbow trout

Bee-collected pollen (bee pollen) is reported as a health food with a vast range of nutritional and therapeutic effects. Biochemical and hematological parameters in blood of rainbow trout treated to various concentrations of pollen (0.5, 2.5, 5, 10, 20 and 30 ppm) for 96 h were determined. The levels of total protein, creatinine, chloride and sodium in fish which exposed to different concentrat...
